Positive: Superb one-of-three attached villas, beautifully positioned for privacy while enjoying an absolutely stunning full view from the garden and terraced balcony to master southwards over the water between Antiparos and Despotika. Apparently built three years ago, although the excellent condition of the interior, exterior and facilities suggests little use. Although it’s not a huge property, the clever layout, hidden utilities and services, and calm, natural decor, give a real sense of space, order and tranquility inside and out. The covered outside eating and lounging area is so comfortable and, given that view, is about the nicest spot to hangout at a holiday home that I’ve ever experienced. The villa’s fittings, linens and kitchenware are all of good quality, great showers too. The location, around 100m from a quiet area of beach at Agios Georgios, and a short stroll to Captain Pepino’s and a couple of other great beachfront restaurants and a cafe-bar, appears to be the best spot on the island. The house manager Kata, as well as both the housekeeper and maintenance guy, who we stupidly called out for something which was actually our error, were all so friendly, patient and helpful. We couldn’t fault them and hope the owners recognise what gems they have and reward them appropriately! Antiparos town, a ten minute drive away, is very cute with the archetypal white houses with blue shutters, stone and white paved walkways that are the signature of the Cyclades, as well as dozens of bougie clothing, gift and interiors shops and some lovely eateries. Recommend the half day boat trip with Captain Spargos over to see the ruins on Despotiko (very easy short walk), with a couple of hours on a hidden Despotiko beach, and the opportunity to snorkel in caves. We also enjoyed a day in Lefkes a, stunning old hill town over on Paris, which is super easy to visit via the frequent car ferries which run like buses.
Negative: A huge amount of villa construction is underway or recently completed around Agios Georgios and apparently there is some local concern about the uncontrolled nature of this. At present the area is still lovely with plenty of green space around most villas. We would love to come back in a few years and would stay here again in a heartbeat, provided the area hasn’t been overdeveloped, which does unfortunately feel possible.
